Skateboarding Historian | Photo Archives WRITER & POET Being at a loss for words is not a bad thing in this world, especially when you consider how inadequate, awkward and limiting words really are for human beings. We are probably the most expressive creatures on this planet, yet in the English language, for example, we must limit that expression to a given combination of some 26 letters. We are born with expression beyond words, we want to be wireless, but we are handed a 56K modem instead and told this is how we communicate. In spite of that we have worked miracles with the word. Kurt Vonnegut, Richard Brautigan, Leonard Cohen, Jack Kerouac and Charles Bukowski stand as a few of the writers whom I respect, who were able to use their dial-up connection to do something special on at least one occasion in at least one of their books. The beauty of writing is not in the words or sentences, but in the space between those words and sentences. Music is much the same way. Poetry, music and dance are the only forms of the arts that truly bring us closer to God, and closer to our Selves. Each one of them has the exceptional ability to transform. But within these disciplines we must be selective. Limericks, speedcore and slam dancing may qualify as poetry, music and dance, but they lack the stuff that makes up the starry nights, or do they? Currently my days are occupied, and obsessively so, with a trilogy of history books on the beloved subject of skateboarding. The first two of these historical works are listed below along with the official site links. I will post more here later when the time comes.
